I found out yesterday that when you bring in a failed part under warranty, they will replace it with no problem until you ask about the warranty. They will only give you the REMAINING warranty left on the failed part. I say that is bull. You are getting a replacement part with a 1 year warranty, so you should get a full warranty, not what is left on a FAILED part! You can tell I am a bit peeved about this. AutoZone can kiss my business goodbye and I will tell everyone I know about this. OK,rant done.

Really? 1st time I have heard this. But then, most parts I have exchanged were brake pads. Or when I buy something. I'll ask to see all the parts listed. Usually for a few bucks more you get an unlimited vrs a 1-2 year warranty. I do compare warrantys with other parts places. On a like part.
For instance. I needed an ignition control module for my Buick. A/Z One had a lifetime for $168 and a 1 year for $133. O'reillys was less $ for a lifetime. I did have it go out and they swapped it out. No prob.

I buy all electronics from the dealer. quality is better & you probably wouldn't have had it go bad again by now. wouldn't buy a starter or alternator from autozone either even if it is a lifetime warrantee. as far as I'm concerned they are junk to start with & they don't pay you to replace it again so stuck with your time to do the job. some of these starters are a pain to replace anymore & not going to get one that's probably going to go out on you. NAPA is another place I wouldn't buy a starter or alt. unless it was a lifetime warrantee. the three year ones are lucky to make it a year & they have the same warrantee system Bob described. changed one twice in two years on my pastors pickup but he bought the three year one. finally sold the pickup so who knows if it went out again or not but I'm betting it did. the autozone we had in town only lasted maybe a year & ahalf. now we've got an oreilys that just opened up. not taking any bets on how long it lasts.

Definitely a big yes, autoZone electricals are junk. I quit buying electrical from them 20 years ago or so. They screwed me on a lifetime warranty starter for my Beretta back then. Their sales slip faded out and they claimed to have no record of selling it to me 6 months later. Then about same time we had problems with the alternator for my sons Mazda, he got a reman from them and it did not charge, so I took it to work with me and stopped in after work to exchange it. The "salesman " took it to their test machine, put it on and proceeded to tell there was nothing wrong with it as it was putting out 12 volts and it was a 12 volt alternator so there was nothing wrong. I tried to explain how a charging system worked and all I got was their signature "Deer in the headlights" look. At my insistence he went and got another one, it too only put out 12 volts and he used that to back up his claim that there was nothing wrong. So I asked if he had anymore . Yes. GO GET IT I said. Brought it out and it put out 14.1 or so. I said give it to me, I will take it. He took it off the machine, and I left.
Warranties are almost worthless because of all the changes over the years. Advance will only warranty something once. Coworkers relative got into that a few years ago.
The cheap electrical line from advance is not worth carrying home, but it has place in the market- the DIY'er and the backyard mechanics.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

RE buying electronics from the dealer IE OEM parts. In some cases they can be bought cheaper than from an auto parts store.

I keep vehicles kinda forever. I needed a front ABS sensor for my Sonoma truck. Called all the parts places. Then called up the dealer. Less expencive at the dealer and came with the backing plate. Hard parts like ball joints, water pumps, end links, belts and hoses, exaust parts, ect. I don't think it matters where you get them. Have to agree the A/Z electrical parts are a crap shoot. And at other parts places, same thing. I also think the brand name counts too. On the module. A/Z had Valuecraft $133 1 year, Duralast $168 lifetime. Then at O'reilly two had a lifetime. Masterpro $142, BWD $149 ( I've heard of BWD and the one I bought. $7 more. ) And AC/Delco with a 1 year for $287. Years ago, bought a re-manufactured starter for my 85 Dodge van 318. Lifetime. I must of replaced 5 of them suckers withing 6 months before I got a good one that lasted for years. Thank you, auto-zone. Easy to swap out, but. Still eh? Old 84 Dodge 3/4 ton truck. 360. Used to back-fire if I let off the gas fast. Take it off when it split the seam. Sometimes it would split open about a foot!! Ooo-we-baby when I looked under it. Stomp the metal back close to the seam. Take it back to A/Z and got a free one to replace it. Thank you A/Z, no issues. Finally figured out I had an exaust leak at the manifold flange gasket to exaust pipe letting air in. Causing the back-fire. Repaired and no more back-fire. Between my 85 van and 84 truck. I would have the external voltage reg take a dump on each around 1-3 years. Ran a ground wire from the battery's neg post to the screw that held the reg onto the firewall. On both. No more probs. Just a year warranty on them. Wasn't the parts fault, just a bad body ground. For what it's worth. I also do online ordering. You might want to check out -> www.am-autoparts.com/?utm_source=MSN_AdCenter&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=BrandedAnd -> www.carparts.com/?emcid=CPED20150302EM331&om_u=AAAAAA&om_i=&csm=720611071&csc=529264&csa=720091231&csu=529478Carparts has a number you can call for info I like. Am has only a email for Q's. I have bought from both and basic. On ither. Do your homework on ordering the correct part. I:E: vin, ect. I also do ebay and Amazon.
